Welcome to the WCHA Women's Postgraduate Scholarship Rally Campaign
Too often in collegiate athletics, the “student” aspect is lost in the student-athlete equation, and the development of the person is an afterthought compared to the drive to win at all costs. Not so in the WCHA, where our seven member institutions share a common commitment to provide the very best possible experience, and to position their student-athletes for lifelong success away from the ice.
We believe the young women of the WCHA represent the very best of college athletics, and that is why, for the last 14 years, we have provided a postgraduate scholarship to one graduating senior – one such as 2016 winner Shelby Amsley-Benzie. After rewriting the North Dakota record books, she has greater aspirations: With a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Amsley-Benzie hopes to apply knowledge of how drugs interact with the body and apply it to help those who are suffering from various afflictions – from working to develop new cancer-fighting drugs, to enhancing current medications to assist those plagued with disease to live longer and fuller lives.
Sadly, however, this league-provided financial assistance was a casualty of recent budget cuts. We are seeking to raise $7,500 to reinstate this grant for 2018 for postgraduate studies.
For the impact your tax-deductible donation can make, look no further than Amsley-Benzie, who said of the postgraduate scholarship:
“This award enables me to finish my graduate work at UND, while being less of a financial burden on my mother, who is a single mother of two and who has sacrificed so much for me – financially and emotionally – to allow me to pursue my dreams of being a Division I college athlete and to someday play for the U.S. Women’s National Team. Education has always been a priority to me and my family; knowing that my mother will not have to worry about me while I finish my studies is really what makes this award so special to me.”
With your help, we can ensure future WCHA student-athletes can further their studies and help make our world a better place. Thank you for your donation! #LeadersAndChampions
Disclaimer: If the WCHA postgraduate scholarship fundraiser does not meet it's goal of $7500, the WCHA may roll any funds received into the 2019 postgraduate scholarship fund and/or the 2018 general operations fund.
